There are lots of booking engines out there, Hostelz is one we have decided to support and promote, because of it’s reviews and ability to compare different prices from different booking agents for travelers interested in budget accommodation.
David Orr started the site way back in 2002 after his first trip to Europe.
The main reason I started it is at the time there were no hostel websites that had reviews and photos of hostels. So people were pretty much just choosing hostels at random or by word of mouth.
So offering reviews has been our primary focus for a long time. Along with that, we’re also known for being the only site that lists all hostels for free, not just the ones in a booking system.
A lot of people also use the site because they now offer a price comparison feature so that people can see the price of each hostel in each of the major booking systems so they can easily book it at which ever has the lowest price.
David’s wife Kristy is handles a lot of the day to day operations of the site, including customer service and much of the managing of the hostel listings. A fun bit of trivia, that’s the back of her head that’s on our front page.
Can someone easily find Women’s dorms etc on the site?
If you are interested in viewing just hostels that have dorm rooms for women (or mixed), you can click the “Dorm Type” option under the search form at the top of the page, and choose “Female Only”.
What is a Hostel?
The typical defining factor of a hostel is that it offers dorm rooms where you get your own bed but there are other people also sharing the same room.
Aside from that, most hostels are known as a place that has a more social environment than you would typically find in a hotel, so there are usually common areas where you can sit down and chat with other travelers.
How does review system work
We have two types of reviews. Anyone can submit guest reviews with the form at the bottom of a hostel listing. But we also offer paid reviews where people can sign up to get paid $10 per review for writing a detailed review of a hostel and submitting photos.
Are you a regular traveler? Become a Paid Reviewer on Hostelz.com Information about that at https://www.hostelz.com/paid-reviewer.
