Ladies Trekking Takes Flag to the Roof of Africa

April 14, 2015 by Rosemary

ladies-trekking-clubThe Flag bearing the message “Everyone has the right to education” reached the Roof of Africa at sunrise on International Womens Day – March 8th 2015.

The mission of Ladies Trekking Club  is to inspire women to Dream and Act Big. Our activities are targeted at promoting education on a global scale.

This year our flag started its journey in the morning of March 3rd on the Machame trail, accompanied by 28 female trekkers of 10 different nationalities.

A group consisting of both men and women used the Marangu trail. The two groups met at the peak of the Kilimanjaro and celebrated the International Women’s Day together.

lõbusad naisedOur special thanks goes to Anne Mary Vahtre who carried the flag throughout her journey and Synnöve Carlsson who took to the flag to the peak of the mountain.

This year’s trekking trip was special, as Synnöve from Sweden was supposed to trek with us already in 2013 when we started the creation of our Dreamers & Doers book.

Unfortunately, she had to leave Tanzania then even before our journey started because her mother was seriously ill. Her story in which all the dreams do not = come true is one of the most extraordinary ones in the book. We are extremely happy that two years latter Synnöve could still make her dream come true and that is why she had the honour to take our flag to the peak of the Kilimanjaro.

After trekking our group visited the Kilimanjaro Orphanage Centre where we delivered a large quantity of school supplies.

Ladies trekkingSimilarly to the last year, our 2015 flag will now start its journey from one country to another. All those wishing to invite the flag to her/his home country should write an E-mail to janika@ladiestrekking.com

Our objective is to find as many people interested as possible to trek with the flag. The mission of the flag journey is finding more supporters for our message “Everyone has the right to education” and collect funds to pay for the tuition of our Maasai girls in the 2016 school year.

Lets join our efforts for giving education to children:
