The Woman behind Umoja Motherland Tours

February 26, 2019 by Rosemary

Umoja Motherland Tours Agnes Mirembe Uganda

Agnes Mirembe is 28 yrs old and with 6 years experience in tour consultancy. Agnes is the face behind Umoja Motherland Tours in Uganda. She is passionate about tourism and conservation in her home country of Uganda and East Africa as a whole.

Umoja Motherland is the latest listing on Women Travel the World – the one stop shop for women passionate about traveling.

Having visited most of the tourism attractions, she enjoys putting together interesting packages for visitors, so that they can have the best travel experience. Agnes also has a passion to empower local people, that is why moja Motherland Tours has partnered with a local school in here community to support a tree planting and water project, so that each trip contributes to this project of giving back to the local community.

How I got involved in tourism

Umoja Motherland Tours - experience the culture

I got involved in travel  when i was young as my family used to take us to explore the local area. I then pursued a tourism bachelor’s degree, loving it when we went our our field trips. During my 3rd year of the degree i got a job in a tour company and as I traveled and explored my country and discovered even more of it’s riches, I grew even more passionate about travel. So I decided to start up my own company – Umoja Motherland tours.

Umoja Motherland has a special interest in Women and Travel – they can arrange for you to have a woman guide, and to stay in women owned hostels or homestays, as well as the chance to visit women owned local community projects that they partner with.

My travel experience that I’ll never forget

Umoja Motherland Tours meet the Gorilla

I will never forget my second time of Gorilla tracking. In the beginning it was quite demanding as we walked and penetrated the Bwindi Impenetrable forest with it’s the thick bushes and tall trees, the stinging plants and red ants. It all got a bit much.

Suddenly we came upon a family of Gorillas with a gigantic silverback watching over them. It was AMAZING – seeing the Gorillas feed, the mothers grooming the juveniles and the baby playing and swinging over the tall trees. This was something magical that I’ll never forget.

One of the magical things about leading trips with Moja Motherland Tours, is the chance to introduce visitors to our magnificent landscape, and the chance to experience such rich moments.
