Athens – The Pride and Cultural centre of Greece

February 10, 2014 by Rosemary

athensAthens is one of the most incredible destinations for tourists of all ages because the city is not only known for its architectural wonders, but also combines history with a modern lifestyle today.

The city is home to a large number of spots that have great historical significance and stories about the culture and past of Athens. From museums to public gardens, and from archeological finds to bargain markets, Athens has it all.

athens2The city is one of the most visited tourists’ destinations and welcomes thousands of travelers from all over the world each year. Athens offers excellent sightseeing atmosphere and weather 365 days a year and is therefore an absolute delight to visit.

Among the many things that Athens   is known for, perhaps the most prominent of all is the Acropolis that leaves every visitor stunned and amazed at the beauty and grandeur of the remains of ancient Athens. The site includes the celebrated Parthenon, something that no history lover should have to miss. The significance of the Acropolis museum is that it includes every single remain and archeological artifact found from the city and region starting from the bronze age till the times of Roman Greece.

athens-artOne cannot fathom the number of artifacts that are being kept at the museum which was previously located in another part of the city but was then moved due to the shortage of space to accommodate all its treasures in one area. The fact that Acropolis museum has been built on a historical, archeological site is quite amazing itself and leaves tourists astounded when the place is lit up at night to reveal its mesmerizing beauty. The museum hosts different exhibitions on regular basis and allows visitors to behold ancient Greek history through glass.

The Acropolis itself, which has been preserved it isn’t state impeccably at the authorities of Athens is a must visit destination for all. It holds immense cultural value for the city and it one of its most important landmarks. The ancient hill is home to a number of different buildings, the most prominent of which is the Parthenon of course. This structure is not only fascinating to look at, but also serves as the sole symbol of Athens even today. This particular structure was built for and dedicated to the celebrated Greek goddess Athena and is truly a wonder of architecture as even in its ruined state, it has withstood earthquakes and rough weather for years without showing any signs of harm. The columns that have been used to build it are massive and make one wonder about the quality of workmanship that must have existed at that time.

Athens has so much to offer to its tourists that one must use a reliable online guide to navigate the city and plan vacations ahead to avoid missing out on anything significant. In this respect, Tripindicator is one of the most comprehensive and updated travel websites that allow users to browse through all of Athens’ tourist spots and check their timings and ticket details before they even land in the city!
