Veronica McCarthy writes:
As a freelance writer, writing comes naturally to me, while traveling does not. Until a month ago, I had spent the majority of my life living in different sectors of the greater Los Angeles area with the occasional weeklong travel adventure. A trustworthy companion always accompanied me on these weeklong jaunts, as I had never wanted to breach the ‘traveling alone’ world.
After a summer of heartbreak and health scares, I decided to disrupt my travel pattern by shipping myself off to Amsterdam, Netherlands, for the fall months. I stumbled upon an advertisement for an apartment swap so I now wake up to European church bells instead of the crashing waves of Venice Beach.
I occasionally wake up in other countries as well, as I am adherent about experiencing the most possible during my time abroad.
Traveling alone has proved simultaneously exhilarating and exhausting. From day one I have been documenting my Amsterdam adventures on a blog.
The blog was designed to hold myself accountable for daily writing practice, but now it hardly feels like practice, as it has become a cathartic outlet and rewarding medium to share my sublime stories and quirky insights with loved ones across the pond.
I hope my daily insights show both the hilarious and profound, as both can be found in daily life, and daily travel.
Go for it Veronica – I found blogging such a brilliant way to reflect and engage with the world as I travelled. I LOVED your post Play Me I’m Yours about your love affair with Amsderdam – brilliant.

“At first we merely exchanged glances, brushed shoulders, and danced a two-step. We proceeded to tell stories, feel pulses, and ponder circumstances. I was coy, he was experienced. At last I mustered the courage to roam his back on a bicycle. Somewhere over the Amstel Canal, I found myself madly in love with Amsterdam. It is clandestine at best…”

Interesting perspective Veronica! I enjoyed your post.
Women are certainly traveling a lot. In some countries like mine, yes, even in Iran, you see them more than men trying to explore the country. It will be great if some people like you write about their experiences about such destinations. Hope to see you do this yourself some day.
