WALK THIS WAY: A NEW TWIST ON SEEING THE FRENCH RIVIERA

June 6, 2013 by Rosemary

bluewalk-pathGuest post by Carlo Roberts, owner of The Blue Walk

Imagine coming back from your vacation feeling lighter, energized, stronger, relaxed and on top of the world.  Isn’t that what vacations are supposed to do?

They can.  Meet The Blue Walk, unique one-week guided walking tours along the gorgeous French Riviera.  Our walks extend along the Blue Mediterranean coast from the Italian border on the east to just beyond Cannes on the west.

No hiking boots or packs required, they’re designed to bring you to the Cote d’Azur’s best-loved spots – from Antibes to Italy, Menton to Monte Carlo – around lunchtime, and give you the Riviera as your playground each afternoon.

What makes The Blue Walk different?

Last painting group at WindsorWalking holidays are often beyond the ability of most travelers.   The Blue Walk’s exclusive itineraries make them accessible for many fitness levels, and are a unique customizable blend of seaside walking trails and city sidewalk strolls.  And because we follow the Mediterranean coastline, as does the train; for those who prefer a shorter walk, there are several stations, a.k.a. “escape hatches”, along the way (a one-week rail pass is included.)  Those preferring more of a challenge have the opportunity to extend their walks with our additional itineraries and maps for self-guided explorations, customizing their vacation to their level.

And while many walking tours consist of back-road trails and hotel hopping, The Blue Walk is hotel based in Nice for the entire week.  Unpack once, make yourself at home.

Finally, The Blue Walk isn’t a typical tour.  We don’t concentrate on history, dates or other facts that one  normally associates with traditional tours.  That wasn’t our passion.

walkettes_gateOur concept is about enjoying the calming nature of walking along the blue Mediterranean Sea, about the   experience of talking with friends on long walks and connecting with new ones.  It’s about really seeing these beautiful coastal towns as you walk every step through them, experiencing them at ground level.

It’s about the sights of the coastline and cities of the Riviera, the sounds of the waves against the beach, the smell of wild flowers when you turn a corner and the taste of a fresh croissant after you’ve walked two hours for it.  It’s the feeling at the end of the journey when you arrive exhilarated, exhausted and energized all at the same time.  It’s a happy thing.

The Blue Walk is a healthy, active vacation for nearly all ages.  It’s ideal for couples, families, singles, baby boomers, girlfriend-getaways, milestone birthdays, bucket lists…. a truly unique, fun, feel-good adventure.

The Blue Walk  is a creation of owner Carlo Roberts, a self-proclaimed travel junkie with 30+ years in the industry.  In April 2000 while living in Toulon on the French Riviera and wanting to explore more of its coastline, Carlo came up with the nutty idea of walking to Italy following the Mediterranean through all its towns.  Thirteen days and 200+ miles later she arrived exhausted and exhilarated; it was absolutely stunning.  But never needing to do that again, she decided to create a more accessible “lite” version, picking the best six little half-day walks and stringing them together into a one-week vacation.  The idea quietly tapped her on the shoulder for nearly a decade, and voilà, The Blue Walk

What is even better?  The Blue Walk is not just to the Riviera, Carlo has extended it to some other destinations.  Some trips include an Art focus along the way  See the  Tours Here
