The essence of the Alps and Provence by Valerie and Jackie
Building a new trip is always a delicious adventure on our end, but we must admit that selecting the best sites, the most interesting activities and the ideal accommodation bring some debates among us. So today we want to share our favorite spot on our “From the Alps to Provence” tour, from each point of views. You will probably see the scientific perspective in Jackie’s choices and the artsy eye of Valerie in hers.
ANNECY, the VENICE OF THE ALPS: “First for its unique market winding in the medieval town, along the narrow canals, where you can see the biggest cheese ever, sold by farmers who have made the daily trip to sell fresh produces right from their high-up Alpine farms. I also love Annecy Lake which is Europe’s cleanest lake (the Savoyards like to say the”world’s cleanest lake”).
Surrounded by snowy peaks, it is a delight to look at the dancing swans and small wooden yachts from the bank. Only French since 1860, Savoy needed to be ready for enemy attacks; therefore, not only Annecy is crowned by a beautiful castle, but several others can be admired around the 10-mile long lake”.
ROUSSILLON: “I had never imagined you could be possibly walking on a painter’s palette. That’s what you do when entering the ocher paths of this red town nested in the Luberon hills of Provence. From a distance, you spot the village right away for all the houses are colored with the local ochers which range from pale yellow to bright red. For years, ocher mines have been exploited for their pigments, mainly used to color textile or latex rings for glass jars. I love the ochre trail because you can see a great variety of colors in the sandy cliffs and under your feet. Really amazing!”
Whether you will enjoy Annecy or Roussillon more, you can decide for yourself by joining us on this special journey. It was born by combining the best of 2 trips and offers a great variety of French landscapes, from lofty mountains and lakes, to the lavender fields and olive groves of Provence, as well as the famous vineyards of Cote du Rhone including the glorious Chateau-du-Pape. Gastronomy is always a great part of our tours, and tasting sessions include chocolate, olive and walnut oil, cheese and wine.
Accommodation in charming hotel by Bourget lake and in a boutique hotel in Provence.
