Top places to shop during your stay in Paris

July 2, 2013 by Rosemary

Guest post  by  Katrina Darby

parisParis is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, with a rich history of fashion, art and culture. It is known to some as the ‘Capital of Fashion’ and is home to some of the most famous fashion designers and cosmetics, such as Yves Saint-Laurent, Chanel, Lancôme, Christian Dior, Guerlain and L’Oréal. It should come as no surprise then, that many people from around the world come here to shop.

Paris is truly a shopper’s delight and even though fashions change so often, the most popular shopping centres usually remain the same. Our top five places to shop whilst in Paris are:

maraisThe Marais

Dating from the 12th century, the Marais is one of Paris’ oldest and most dazzling quarters. It is a centre for art and fashion and has a wonderful array of boutique style shops.

You can find beautifully woven scarves, shawls and other items made from cashmere and silk at Couleurs & Cachemire, situated in the Marais. The clothes here have been expertly made by some of the best craftsmen in Northern India. You should definitely take a look here if you’re a lover of Asian styles.

The Boulevard HaussmanThe Boulevard Haussman

Paris’ department stores are breathtaking in their own right, due to their grandeur and spectacle, not even taking into account the wonderful things you can buy. Galeries Lafayette and Printemps on Boulevard Haussman contain a treasure trove of women’s fashion, jewellery and gourmet food. A shopper’s heaven; it would be quite easy to spend an entire day shopping here.

Faubourg Saint-Honoré

Faubourg Saint-HonoréIf you are looking for the finest designer clothes and top quality cosmetics, then the Saint-Honoré fashion district is where you need to be. Home to classic designers such as Versace and Yves Saint Laurent, you’re sure to find some timeless, beautifully stylish pieces here. This district is also only a short walk from the Boulevard Haussman, so you can combine your visit to Faubourg Saint-Honoré with a shopping trip to the excellent department stores located a short distance away.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay during your trip to Paris, then Accor have a range of quality hotels located close to many of the top shopping districts. You shouldn’t have far to carry all of your bags of designer clothes and cosmetics!

Paris is a truly wonderful city and definitely a city everyone should visit at least once in their lives. If you consider yourself a shopaholic, then plan your trip to Paris today. You won’t be disappointed.
