French Escapade - Painting Holidays in Europe

When Jackie Grandchamps and Valerie started to organized cultural tours for women in France in 2004, they did not know that their business would expand to other countries in Europe and the USA. And despite the international destinations now proposed, they have kept their business name, French Escapade.

Not only the size of the company has tremendously grown for the past decade, but they now mainly target painters. Most of the 25 tours organized every year are painting workshops, women representing 98% of their clients.

They still do organize cultural and cooking tours for pre-established groups of min 6 people.

Regarding their painting workshops, Valerie and Jackie prefer to use the term “painting holidays” because cultural visits are incorporated in the painting program. Therefore non-painters are welcome on the tours.

They are designed for groups of 12 persons max and led by a professional local tour leader. In addition, an art instructor gives classes every day for all levels and in different media (watercolor, oil, pastel, ink …).

Cultural visits are also organized to discover the beauties of the local areas, such as a guided visit of Siena in Italy, a boat cruise in medieval Bruges in Belgium or a ride in a gondola to the sea-of-ice glacier in the Alps.

Gastronomy is also a big part of the tour. Most lunches and dinners are included and attention is paid to learning about the cuisine of the region: wine in Tuscany, chocolate in Belgium, olive oil in Provence, paella in Spain, etc … Picnic lunches are proposed for plein-air painting sessions.
