You don’t need to be a globe-spanner to get a sense of different cultures and dramatic landscapes. I am talking about America. North America to be precise! From the East Coast across to the warmer climes of California, there is a huge range of experiences to be had.
A classic road trip might be the way to go, or I have done this trip by train on Amtrak which I adored – slow travel, go to sleep in one state and wake up in another.

Start in New York
Let’s say you wanted to start in New York and work your way over to the West Coast. First of all, plan your money and get the best deal for your flights. Depending on where you are coming from this can be pretty expensive. The average price to fly from the United Kingdom is between £400 and £500.
Think of how much spending money you will need while you are away. Work out a daily budget and be sure to take into account food, accommodation and travel expenses. to get the most out of a vacation like this, you need to make sure you have enough money to last for the duration of your stay. If you fail to adequately prepare these things, you may have to cut short your trip. Either that or take a casual job to keep your trip on track.
When people think of New York, they automatically think of New York City. With a number of movies and tv shows set there it totally understandable. However, New York State encompasses all kinds of different terrain, from vast rivers to mountains and fields.

Mountains and Rivers
Mountains and rivers are something that the States does rather well. There are truly epic landscapes for you to discover, especially in the Midwest. Colorado has many different climates and compelling vistas. You could spend some time in Aspen where the skiing is good, and the nightlife is better! Check out some information on Snowmass rentals for an idea of the various kinds of places available to stay there.
Las Vegas
Of course, you have Nevada and an American icon in its own right: Las Vegas! It is a hugely popular destination for many holidaymakers, and you will never be short of something to do there. If you want casinos, then you are in luck. Just make sure to leave your cash somewhere safe. There will be many things tempting you to spend it, but you are on a budget, remember?
California
Then there is California, in particular, Los Angeles. Head for Venice Beach and Santa Monica – two of my favourite spots. The City of Angels has played backdrop to countless thousands of movies and is steeped in history. Many dreams have been chased in LA, not always successfully. Make sure your trip is not one of them by planning ahead and knowing what to expect. Happy trails!
