Volunteer Travel is a growing sector in the Travel Industry – Our Women Travel website tries to keep an up to date listing of Volunteer Networks, here us a snippet from one of them Edge of Seven to celebrate International Womens Day.
Ngima Doma is just one woman who is walking testament to the trength and potential of women in Nepal.
Ngima Doma is the headmaster of the school system in Basa, where we recently helped to build additional classrooms at the village’s higher secondary school. Out of 306 school systems in the Everest Region, Ngima Doma is the only female headmaster.
A natural leader, Ngima Doma inspires unity in her community, laughter in her classrooms, and hope in the hearts of her students – and she does it all while raising her 10-month-old daughter, whose name in the local dialect means “love.”
Every staff member, board member, and volunteer at Edge of Seven who has had the chance to meet Ngima Doma has been blown away by her tenacity and kindness. Ngima Doma was fortunate, as a woman in Nepal, to receive a Master’s degree. And by using her education to empower others in her home village, Ngima Doma is helping to break the pattern of excluding girls from school in rural communities.
