Before there were highways and cars, there was the water as our major way of getting from A to B. So joining a cruise is a 21st Century way of experiencing the sea as our highway.
Whenever I travel I love to get out on the water, and see a place from that perspective – usually a ferry does the job.
Relax on board
But the idea of joining one of the hundreds of cruise ships is compelling – traveling in comfort from one port to another. Waking in a new country with a new vista.
Personally I enjoy combining an organised trip, like a cruise with an extended stay in the starting country afterwards. I get the best of both worlds – a well organised guided trip, and then hire a car and explore more by myself in a more serendipity way.
Thomson Spirit Cruise Ship
I have been looking at the Thomson Web Cruise website – most of their Mediterranean Trips leave from the Island of Majorca – I am tempted by the Moorish Delights or the Mediterranean Adventure – both 7 night cruises.
To further the water experience, I would opt for getting to Majorca via a Ferry – my choice is from Barcelona, as I am planning to spend some time there and in the South of France.
Explore Barcelona
I also think it is worth spending a few nights in Majorca before hand, and I noticed on the Women Travel website a listing for a women only B&B in Ibiza on one of the nearby Islands.
So that is me sorted – A few days in fabulous Barcelona, a ferry ride from Barcelona to Majorca, a 7 day Cruise, A ferry to Ibiza for 3 days, and home to London.
