Evelyn Hannon the editor of Journeywoman.com writes about the beginnings of Journeywoman:
Back in 1982 When I began travelling solo I had no mentors and seldom met other women travellers on the road. Imagine if I could have foreseen what impact females would have on the travel scene going forward.
Today I happily meet women everywhere my journeys take me. Ask anybody in travel what the three fastest growing segments of the industry are and invariably you’ll hear, the Womens Market, First-Timers and Fifty-Plus. And guess what? That’s what our Journeywoman Network excels at. Hurray for all of us. Together we are strong. Very strong!

Journeywoman.com has developed a fantastic resource rich website – I especially like their tips from locals in various locations around the world. I have not met Evelyn yet – but I hope to one day. She seems to be an extraordinary traveler and networker.
My own website Women Travel the World and this blog you are reading are much later additions, though the roots of it started in 1996 when we bought some land on which to build a lodge for women travelers.
Like Evelyn, I am excited by the growth in travel focused especially on women, and promoting and connecting all the women owned and run travel businesses around the world.
Women Travel the World is a very comprehensive directory of women focused travel businesses around the world. This blog and our social media presence on Facebook and Twitter support these links and aim to share the word.
Journeywoman have developed a much deeper an richer resource of tips from women travelers around the world, and I often refer people to the site.
I believe in Co-opertition – it focuses on co-operating together to build networks and support our businesses. Rather than Competition which sees us competing with each other.
So Journeywoman and Evelyn – Well done! Many happy returns !
