Travel Cheap – Travel can be for everyone

December 30, 2016 by Rosemary

travel cheapIt is often stated that travel is for those who can afford it.

With a variety of creative strategies available to less bank rolled travelers this doesn’t have to be the case.

There are many ways to stretch the travel dollar and sometimes even to make money while out on the road. Savvy wanderers are finding ways to see everything without breaking the bank. You might be surprised at some of the ways you can shave dollars off that dream vacation and really experience the location destination you desire from a different perspective.

From house sitting, pet sitting, and home sharing to volunteer vacations and other work-study programs, there are many opportunities worldwide to find yourself.

Travel Cheap – Teach English

Teaching English is one of the most available volunteer opportunities in many countries, especially those who have a significant orphan or low-income population. Thailand, Africa, and Mexico all offer programs that provide low cost travel in exchange for spending a few hours a day teaching children and adults how to read and speak English, or other school lessons such as sports or mathematics.

Everyone has a skill or knowledge to share, why not use travel as a way to experience something wonderful for you while helping others.

Travel Cheap – House and Pet Sitting

House sitting or pet sitting are popular with travelers of all ages and provide a homey atmosphere rather than a hotel for your visit.

Though it is not common to make money traveling this way the savings in hotel costs when using this method can be extraordinary.

You can choose locations that are near common tourist attractions or really get away from it all with a farm out in the countryside or a garden getaway. Researching the location of prospective homes and developing a solid resume that demonstrates a trustworthy character and a history of satisfied clientele can be key to getting to experience some of the most desirable locations and higher end homes or locations with more responsibility and high reward.

This is an awesome opportunity for those who love animals to find homes where they can enjoy all the love and affection of someone else’s pets while traveling while saving money to enjoy a longer stay or more experiences.

Travel Cheap – work for your Accommodation

Eco tours are also available wherein travelers can work with conservationists, biologists, or other important issues for the environment or the animal kingdom. These opportunities are more often available to college students working toward degrees in these fields, but can also be applied for by the layperson with a desire to work towards contributing to a greater good.

These types of trips often lead people to places they might not have otherwise chosen to go such as Africa, Costa Rica, or China. Some of these opportunities are purchased for a fee while others are free, but compensation is rare unless you are a highly skilled individual with qualifications needed. Often this is the case for Biologists, Medical Personal, or Emergency Aid workers.

No matter what your age or interests, with a little research and preparation it is possible to travel the world with little cash and experience some of the most desirable vacation destinations. Look into house sitting, pet sitting, and eco tourism opportunities that might be available to you and the world will be at your fingertips.

Wwoofing – Willing Workers on Organic farms and Help Exchange are two other ways of traveling cheap – usually four hours work a day in exchange for food and board.
