Rosemary Neave is off to Kerala – she writes:
Women Travel is off to the coastal state of Kerala in South West India for three weeks. I am part of the second #KeralaBlogExpress in which Kerala Tourism gathers a busload of bloggers from all over the world, sets them up with wifi and takes them on a tour around what is known as God’s Own Country.
Women Travel India
India is a destination which has long been on my bucket list, and one of the exciting developments in the last few years has been the development of Indian women forming companies focusing on travel for their own countrywomen. Traditional travel for Indians has been in extended family groups, but women holidaying together is gaining momentum.
I have set up a page to focus on Women Travel and India www.womentravel-india.com which lists these and other companies which connect women and travel and India. More about Kerala Tourism.
I have started some background reading:
The Elephant, the Tiger and the Cell Phone
Reflections on INDIA – The Emerging 21st Century Power
by Shashi Tharoor
– Looking forward to seeing what an elected communist government looks like in Kerala, and what impact it has had on the lives of people.
– Love the idea of India as a secular country that welcomes all religions, rather than the west’s view of secular as being opposed to religion.
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
This is Arundhati’s first book and is set in Kerala – it won the Booker Prize in 1997 (I know I am late getting to it!).
This has been downloaded to my Ipad to read on the trip. I am really looking forward to that – I love reading about the country that I am traveling in.
