How to Run a Business and Travel

November 14, 2016 by Rosemary

Traveling around the world and combining business and travel over the Internet might sound like a perfect setup.

How to run a business and travel at the same timeAlthough it comes with a lot of benefits like seeing places that you’ve never been to before and expanding your network through the people you meet, there are also challenges that come with it.

You have to take care of your travel details and at the same time work on your personal and business concerns. While it can be very challenging, there are ways on how to make it work. Yes, it’s possible to successfully manage your company while away traveling to different places.

One of the concerns that traveling business owners typically face is the need to communicate with their staff and clients. If you’re in different time zones, you must be flexible so you could get in touch with them. The good thing is that as long as you have good Internet connection and a computer or a smartphone, there are various apps that would let you do this like Skype, Slack and more.

You may also want to choose your destinations carefully, not just with travel in mind, but your business as well. Places like Bali, Prague, and Chiang Mai are perfect locations because not only would you see fantastic attractions, but there’s also a big opportunity to connect with people that may help you with your network.

Writers –  enjoy quiet space for writing a book, while enjoying living in the midst of a different culture, while being away from the day to day demands of living at home.  My choice – Chiang Mai, Rarotonga or Marrakech.

IT Development – anywhere there is good unlimited internet.  I have someone renting my apartment in Auckland NZ for a year via Airbnb.  Unlimited internet, great city to explore.

Travel Blogging – well anywhere works for this, but you need time to write and reflect, so spending time in a destination can work well.  If there is no internet, you can work off line until you have the internet.

To help you enjoy your trip more and at the same time effectively manage your business over the web, we made this extremely useful infographic for you.

Hi I was wondering can you tell me how I can start a buisiness buying hand made items from Africa and India that would help the people of these countries

First step would be to go and spend some time there and make contacts. There are a lot of NGOs working in India and africa helping local people develop international outlets. Many of them started by someone visiting and deciding to stay and get involved helping them connect to international markets. try http://fairtradeusa.org/source-fair-trade

Some great tips, thanks for sharing. It can be truly difficult to completely shut yourself off when traveling, when the pressures of work are never-ending – especially if you’re in a position of running your own company. Increasingly travel has become an integral part of many people’s job description, but it can be challenging to fit in. Finding the right balance and staying organised are key.
